Opinion: MacBook, or iMac + iPad?

20100208-imacipad.jpg

The announcement of the iPad has done a lot of things: it’s stoked up excitement in the Mac using community, it’s got a bunch of developers feverishly coding exciting new stuff, and it’s got retailers and cell phone companies the world over drooling over the money they can make from it.
And it’s also somewhat upset [...]

Follow me after the jump to find out does the “SuperPhone” stand the [...]

Show Some Love for the Lisa with this T-Shirt

Who says I'm a flop?

Who says I'm a flop?

Although the $9,995 price tag was one of the reasons the computer Lisa didn’t sell well, showing some love for Lisa in T-shirt form will only set you back $32.

Often considered one of Apple’s flops, the ill-starred Lisa was the first computer on the consumer market with a graphical user interface (GUI) but despite this innovation the high cost, lack of software programs and general sluggishness led it to the computer graveyard in 1983 after two years and 100,000 units sold.

Bruce Tognazzini, the interface guru at Apple once said, “The Lisa was a great machine. We just couldn’t sell any.”

Show that you agree with this T-shirt, available on Etsy.

Enjoy Apple’s ‘Back To The Future’ Homepage Circa 1983

Future perfect? Dave Lawrence's mock-up of Apple's homepage circa 1983

Future perfect? Dave Lawrence's mock-up of Apple's homepage circa 1983

Dave Lawrence over at Newton Poetry had some fun with Photoshop making this retro-future homepage for Apple products. He picked a critical year in Apple history, 1983, when the company faced competition from IBM and the flop of the $10,000 Lisa.

Inspired by “how Apple’s web site has changed over the years,” Dave “thought it’d be cool to use it as a time-traveling template to take a peek into the past… It’s not accurate, of course, because I took some embellishments on the iPhone prototype and the fact that some sort of World Wide Web existed during the Reagan administration.”

Still, it’s an interesting take on web design—as well as what’s gone right and wrong with Apple products over the years.

Dave also mentions he’d like to see what would happen “if someone took a snapshot of Apple.com as it would appear throughout the years before its actual launch in 1996. For instance, I’d love to see what the homepage would’ve looked like on the Newton’s launch day, or the first PowerBook, or System 7.”

Anyone game? Send us your what-may-have been mock-ups.

We’ll give a prize to the best entry.

Hat tip to CoM reader Raphael.

Lisa Works at a Design Shop in Denver

lisa3.jpg

Owner and founder of the Denver graphic design studio Matter, Rick Griffith loves all things Apple. He and his crew use the latest Macs among other gear to do their innovative work. They also love vintage technology and on a recent trip to Denver, my visit to the Matter command center unearthed a pristine Lisa in the wild, which we share with you here.

Bonus points if you can identify what she’s sitting on.
