Colbert Calls for iTunes Flashmob to Take Top Album Spot

On Monday night’s Colbert Report, the most feared television journalist in America let it be known he was none too happy that his Christmas Special Soundtrack was 15 spots down from Kanye West’s top selling album on iTunes. He called for the Colbert Nation to crash Apple’s iTunes servers at 5pm EST on Wednesday to vault his record to the top position and “force Kanye to admit I am the voice of this generation, of this decade.”

As of Tuesday night, Stephen Colbert’s disc had moved up two spots to #14, but his new rival, at this writing, is Britney Spears, whose album Circus is presently iTunes’ top seller.

There has been no word from the Colbert camp calling off the flashmob, nor comment regarding whether West’s arrogance remains in need of a takedown now that his record is no longer in first position. Knowing Colbert’s own reputation for having an outsized ego, however, it’s likely he’s still looking for a big bump in the polls on Wednesday.

    Funny how what used to be called “pathetic sycophantic lemmings” are now called “flashmobs.” I agree it sounds much cooler, but I’m not sure it really is.

    Hey dumbass… us non-americans CANNOT watch hulu videos.

    @petskos - I see you apparently don’t have access to manners or civility where you live, either. If you’re interested in the Colbert clip it’s avaialble on this thing called the Internet. Here’s a handy list of alternatives to Hulu. Good luck!

    @Lonnie Lazar,
    I m aware of the thing called the Internet. Are u aware of a little site called youtube.com ? If u post your videos there instead of hulu, then everyone will be able to watch them.

    If I am supposed to google for alternative sources (as you so ‘cleverly’ propose) in order to view the full content of this site, then what’s the point in visiting this site in the first place ? I could go directly to google.

    Unless this site is aimed exclusively to US residents, don’t use a video service that’s excluding the rest of the world. Thats really rude and inconsiderate.

    @Petskos
    Are you aware of of website blocking software on people’s work computers? It sucks when you get a few spare minuets and want to check out the CoM but the stupid youtube clip is blocked by websense. >_<

    @Petskos

    “Are u aware of a little site called youtube.com ? If u post your videos there instead of hulu, then everyone will be able to watch them.”

    Out of curisity, why can you type ‘your’ and yet you twice use ‘u’ instead of ‘you’?

    As for CoM posting someone else’s copyrighted material (Colbert Report) on youtube, that’s obviously a big no-no. It’s hardly CoM’s fault that it’s not available world wide any more than I can’t always get access to BBC or German broadcasts.

    As someone who has lived on more than one continent I find your original comment “Hey dumbass… us non-americans” to the writer of this article to be far more rude and inconsiderate than the distribution of the video which CoM doesn’t host nor control. The article already repeats what Colbert says so it is hardly vital.

    @Petskos

    “what’s the point in visiting this site in the first place ? I could go directly to google.”

    Indeed! Just what would the INTERNET be without you complaining! Oh the horror that we wouldn’t have you here ; ) ; ) ; ) Your importance is more blinding than the midday sun!

    @ everyone

    I agree that Petskos was an idiot with his first post, very rude, but he does have a point, I mean Youtube is undoubtedly the number one video site ever right? Anyone dispute that? My Grandma knows what a “youtubes” is, I bet your granny wont use Hulu :)

    @ Church of Apple,

    Ever wonder why the American economy is in the tank? If your work blocks Youtube to stop people watching silly time wasting videos, then maybe you shouldnt be watching those? Anyway, you would be screwed if anyone else in the world had heard of Hulu, and they blocked that too. In your case it would make sense for you to find a way past your companies security while you stole some precious productivity, and googled for a source yourself.

    I get so cranky at people who treat the rest of the world so poorly! I’ve had sites that check my IP before, there was one I took a screen capture of when it said “System Requirements: you must be located within the mainland of the USA” or something, excluding Hawaii?

    There really are more than 300 million people in the world you know, and it doesnt cost you anything to cater to us !

    @Lonnie Lazar,
    OK, I didnt know about that.

    However I think its still a matter of priorities… would you rather exclude the unfortunate people who have that stupid ban on their work computer (they can watch it from home though) or would you rather exclude EVERY single one who doesnt live in the US ? (work and home computer)

    I suppose you chose the latter.
