DIY iMac Made From Mac Mini

Homemadeimac

The iMac is a beautiful all-in-one desktop solution capable of handling most every need. But it’s also a bit pricey, especially compared to the dirt cheap Mac mini. Jon Doty decided to do something, fusing a Mac mini with a commodity LCD monitor to create a homemade iMac that I can only describe as…elegantly janky.

Make sure to check out the gallery - the whole process is detailed to a charming degree.

I admire what this fellow has done; it is creative and funky in the spirit one expects from Mac owners. But as a Mini owner myself, I like it for its modularity (which, of course, the iMac lacks as an all-in-one). So I couldn’t help thinking: “Or… you could, say, preserve the flexibility of your system by… maybe… *not* affixing your Mini to your monitor?”

    Sucks…

(Such a childish DIY doesn’t need a more consistent comment)

It seems pretty complicated for such a simple thing. Instead of all the other supplies I suggest two words: Duct and Tape.

Well I suppose that’s one way to avoid being stuck with a glossy screen.

BUT I NEED THAT SIX INCHES SQUARE ON MY DESKTOP! AND PUTTING THINGS ON TOP OF THE MINI ISN’T AN OPTION!

I like the tubing, but… c’mon. It’s a mini. It’s tiny! Plus, you’d be hiding your Apple goods behind a Generic Regular Guy Monitor. (I use one of those as well, but I do like having my Mac out and about for viewing. Plus, tying a G5 to the back of my 20″ monitor would be more making a side panel for it out of a monitor. Now THAT I want to see! Get right on that DIYers!)

I cracked up when I saw this!
This goes down next to that picture of the ghetto flatscreen tv and the guy that made the hands-free headset by rubber-banding a phone to his head.

HELLO! still requires Two power points! therefore not a replacement for an iMac
