iPhone Autocorrect: An Excellent Excuse For Errors
12:46 am, October 9th, 2008, Giles Turnbull
Over at Howard Forums, user Windsor43 relates the hilarious tale of how an SMS message from him to his wife autocorrected the word “nah” to “nag”.
“Thanks, Steve,” Windsor43 says, “for making my wife almost Think Different.”
I suspect most of us can relate to that one. I tend to sign off messages to loved ones with “gx”, but the iPhone likes to correct that to “Gf”. Is that supposed to be short for “girlfriend” or something? No matter; my wife is used to it already.
(Yes, we’ve heard the rumor about an autocorrect toggle switch in the next iPhone update. Let’s hope it’s true for Windsor43’s sake.)
Have you got any amusing tales of autocorrect woe? Confess all in the comments.

I can’t remember any specific stories about autocorrect, but it does piss me off quite frequently. Couldn’t Apple allow you to add specific words to the dictionary so that if you type them, it won’t autocorrect? Sometimes, it’s a very useful feature. Other times, as this story illustrates, it can mess things up horribly. Also, spellcheck would be nice… I suppose that’s in the same place as copy and paste, eh?

my favorite iPhone auto-correction is the change from ‘f*ck’ to ‘duck.’
so one day, after a particularly haranguing day in traffic/at work, i was texting my wife like a crazy man, dropping f-bombs like crazy and really getting my point across in an angry manner.
except in every instance of ‘f*ck’ it had been changed to…
f*ck : duck
f*cking : ducking
f*cked : ducked
my wife called immediately, laughing so hard her voice was raspy. after an explanation, all the anger and frustration melted away.

Yo is always to To. I hate that.

Well, it always annoys me that I try to type “w/” or “w/o” and the autocorrect decides what I *really* meant was “a”…

I told my girlfriend the other day:
“You ate the best thing in my life”
Whoops.

Every time I type out “Mwah!” my iPhone changes it to “Mean!” - I’ve sent that off a few times by accident.
