Some iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and Apple Watch Series 4 buyers are disappointed after finding out that their shiny new devices won’t be arriving today as expected.

A number of customers are reporting that their delivery dates have slipped to Monday, September 24 — but that may not be the case, after all.

When you stay up late preorder a new device from Apple, you expect it to arrive on launch day, and that’s usually what happens if you weren’t too late. But as is always the case with anything you buy online, delivery dates are not guaranteed.

Some iPhone XS, XS Max, and Apple Watch 4 buyers are quickly realizing this after their delivery dates were pushed back until Monday just hours before their package was expected to arrive via UPS. But it seems this could be a glitch in the system for some.

UPS tracking indicates iPhone XS and Apple Watch delays

The issue was highlighted on Twitter, where many customers were complaining that their delivery dates had changed to September 24 on the UPS website — even though they were still reading September 21 on Apple.com.

One customer got in touch with UPS and received a worrying response.

“We have a contractual agreement with some shippers, which limits the amount of packages that can be handed over to UPS on any given day,” a support representative explained. “When this amount is exceed, as in this case, the packages may experience delays.”

“We first need to complete those packages that were given to us in previous days before we can export those that were recently shipped.”

It seems incredibly strange that Apple would have reached its supposed shipment limit with UPS — especially during a product launch, when both companies would be expecting millions of devices to be on their way to customers. But it may not be true.

Some delivery dates have been reverted

Some customers, who saw their delivery dates slip on the UPS website, later reported that they were reverted back to September 21, 9to5Mac reports. This is not the case for all, unfortunately, but many have been lucky.

It seems, then, that this could be a glitch in the system above anything else.

Has your order been delayed by UPS, and if so, was the delivery date reverted to September 21 later? Let us know down in the comments whether you’ll be getting a new iPhone or Apple Watch today — or whether you’ll have to wait until Monday.
