If you use your computer setup for podcasting, streaming, gaming or just a whole bunch of video calls, you may have a microphone in your face a lot. It’s great to easily move it out of the way when you’re not speaking into it, of course. And for that you need a reliable boom arm. Today’s M1 Max MacBook Pro user swears by his Logitech G Compass microphone boom arm.

Logitech G Compass microphone boom arm gets high marks in M1 Max MacBook Pro setup
European Redditor swiftgekko (“Gek”) showcased the tidy-but-broadcast-ready setup in a post entitled, “My current WFH setup. Still work in progress.”
They use a 14-inch M1 Max MacBook Pro on a Raindesign stand — “very sturdy and really well made,” they said of the stand — to drive a rather sweet 32-inch BenQ PD3205U 4K monitor that he called “great for video and photo editing.”
But they reserved their highest praise for the boom arm holding their Logitech Blue Yeti USB microphone in the center of his photograph, above. It’s the Logitech G Compass microphone boom arm. By the way, peripherals giant Logitech bought Blue Microphones in 2018. Logitech G is its gaming division.
Logitech G Compass Premium Broadcast Boom Arm for Microphone
Apparently the Compass is a quite well-made boom arm.
“This is in a world of its own, the build quality of this arm is in a class of its own,” Gek gushed. “Worth paying extra for.”
The Compass arm usually goes for $100 on Amazon, but now it’s marked down 10% to $90. See the gear list of links below. You can definitely undercut that price with some other arm — some of them go for below $20 on Amazon — but should you? Probably not, especially if you’ve got a $200+ mic riding around in the thing.
Compass features (according to Logitech G):
- Broadcast studio-grade design with enclosed aluminum construction and internal springs.
- Hidden channel cable management system for sophisticated on-camera looks.
- Hand-tightened friction hinges for smooth, quiet operation during streaming sessions and easy set up.
- 32-inch reach (81 cm) and 360-degree rotation for maximum maneuverability.
- Premium quality mic boom arm designed for Yeti GX, Yeti, and other professional broadcast mics.
Other bits and pieces in the setup include a Lepro desk lamp that Gek called “an absolute steal for this price” and one of Anker’s potent, multi-port chargers, the 737 Power Bank, which is about $50 off right now.
