What's up guys, Stephen Cult of Mac here, and today we're taking a look at a brand new
0:03
web app from comic book giants Marvel, where you can create your own comic book from scratch
0:08
right in your web browser in next to no time at all. So let's roll that intro and get started
0:14
Let's roll the intro
0:30
So Marvel have recently teamed up with Chinese games developer TapTap to roll out a website where you
0:45
can create your own comic book online called Marvel Create Your Own. That's right, you can
0:49
design your very own Marvel story with the most popular characters in original stories and
0:53
situations. It looks like it'll give fans a host of options to create a comic book masterpiece
0:59
Have you ever dreamt of being Stan Lee or Frank Miller but struggled to draw a convincing stick
1:03
man? Well that's no longer an issue thanks to this site as it gives you a range of Marvel characters
1:08
backgrounds and speech bubbles, meaning you only have to concentrate on telling a killer story
1:13
After you've signed up and picked your pen name, it's really simple to start your first Marvel project. There's a Spider-Man story already started for you when you open the page
1:21
so you can get stuck in right away. If you're like me, you'll want to build your Marvel words
1:25
straight away but there will be tutorials which are in the top right hand side of the My Stories
1:29
tab that are really useful when you need to find out exactly how everything works. You can even
1:34
have a read of the other comics that have been created by clicking on the read button on the
1:37
main page to get some inspiration for your graphic story creations as well. What's great about
1:43
designing your story is that the characters are fully manoeuvrable 3D models that you can shift
1:46
spin and rotate into the perfect position for your ace new comic strip. It's pretty impressive the
1:52
level of detail you can get with their positioning. By selecting the page thumbnail, you can pick your
1:56
pose before making use of the tilt, zoom and rotate sliders to get your superhero climbing
2:00
jumping and swinging just the way you want them to. It can be a little bit tricky to begin with
2:05
working through the wealth of poses and positions you can put the characters into
2:08
but once you get to grips with the controls, it gets much easier as you go along
2:12
Once your character is in place, it's simple to change the background to match the action
2:16
of your character. There's lots to choose from like a cool cityscape or an action-packed explosion to
2:21
get your creative juices flowing. The speech bubbles can be moved around to fit the visuals
2:25
so you can get them to say exactly what you want, when you want. If you need to take it to the next
2:30
level, there's the option to split the page layout and put a series of images on one page
2:34
or give your characters a close-up shot if you need to. There's also a host of other standard
2:40
features to help you out including auto-saving, drag and drop layers, layer locking and a preview
2:45
mode. All in all, there's plenty of options to get you working like a true Marvel pro
2:50
To start you off, there's 5 demo pages but you can create up to 24 full pages on site
2:55
This would usually take the guys over at Marvel around 6 weeks to create a single comic
2:59
but you can do it in next to no time. There's a solid range of characters to choose right
3:04
from the beginning such as Spider-Man, The Hulk and Captain America to name a few
3:07
but you can build up your collection by buying one of their reasonably priced character bundles
3:12
The website is currently offering up to 50% off when you want to unlock new characters
3:16
so it's worth a real look at what you want to buy. I reckon the Ultimate Villains bundle is a
3:21
great shout to give your superheroes some real bad guys to save the world from. And there's plenty
3:25
more characters for you to look forward to adding to your comics with around 100 extra scheduled to
3:30
be on site in time for Christmas. And of course there's a handy share button that will allow you
3:35
to show off your new creations to the world. At the moment it's only available as a web
3:39
application on Safari and Google Chrome, but all of you iPhone addicts can rest assured as there's
3:44
plans to create iPad and iPhone apps for the platform in the near future. It's a really powerful weapon in the battle for comic book supremacy and up to this point there
3:53
are 30,000 plus stories already out there in the Marvel Create Your Own Fiction universe
3:58
If it gets more people interested in the art form of comic book illustration and encourages people
4:02
to try their hand at doing it for real, then that's only a good thing in our book. And who
4:07
knows it might be giving the next Alex Ross or Neil Gaiman their first shot at becoming a comic
4:11
book legend. Well that is it for this video, but make sure to let us know your thoughts on the
4:16
Marvel Create Your Own platform in the comments section down below. I've had a ton of fun playing
4:21
with my favourite Marvel superheroes over the past two weeks and I'm sure you will too. Thanks to the
4:26
guys over at Marvel for sponsoring this video, I will make sure to leave all of the links you need
4:30
in the description below. But if you enjoyed this video please support us by hitting that like
4:34
button, subscribe if you haven't already and I'll catch you in the next one
