welcome to your world your Newton you know sometime back in the 1700s an apple dropped and Sir Isaac
0:15
Newton had a bright idea the laws of gravity it was a turning point in history well modern physics astronomy
0:22
the Space Program Newton's intelligence gave us a new way of looking at the world and now 200 years later the has
0:30
created another Bright Idea introducing the Newton message pad from Apple a
0:36
remarkable new way of looking at the world uh I have had six beers already
0:43
today so jeez yeah no need okay let's uh let's get
0:50
this shizzel on the rizle hello and welcome to the cast the best 30 minute
0:56
Apple conversation 30 plus minute maybe the longest 30 minute conversation
1:01
you're going to hear all week long I'm your host aan Elijah joining me today two incredible gentlemen the first a man
1:08
who will try to ironclaw your junk after a few rounds of alses I'm speaking of
1:13
course about Mr Leander kany come on that's bless his intro oh
1:20
do you obviously don't remember uh my my fellow witness and fellow recipient of the
1:26
ironclaw one Mr buster you apparently don't remember this
1:31
Leander I remember now I don't remember calling anyone's J I remember this there's a reason we call it the iron
1:37
claw you went crazy on that junk and I was like I think leander's been drinking
1:42
anyway he's like doesn't even remember this I remember this at all oh we have a great show lined up for you guys so many
1:49
great Apple topics to talk about and uh podcasting is turned 10 we'll be talking a little bit about the art form and
1:56
entertainment of podcasting itself and we're going to be doing an all new get to know your cultist at the end of the
2:02

2:59
buster 20 12 no that was just this year I think it was at the was it at
3:05
like that beats concert we went to outside of it I think I can't remember I'm still recovering mentally and
3:11
emotionally though um let's start with this guys maybe one of you could tell me
3:17
what is the ice bucket challenge do you you guys know really no I mean I've heard a little bit about it and I saw
3:22
Tim Cook get dumped over the head with ice and I saw Dr Dre get dumped over the head with ice but I know it's about is
3:27
it Lou garr's disease yeah so this is like genius marketing what what exactly
3:33
are these people pouring ice over their heads for well in order to get out of a $100 penalty fee to ALS Charities you
3:41
have to dump a bucket of ice on your head so in order to avoid paying money to a
3:46
charity have to dump ice over your head what a valiant cause no wonder we're seeing so many of these videos yeah all
3:53
these rich guys doing it that's right not just rich like Mega Ultra Rich right
3:58
like Tim Cook in all fairness he probably donated a lot of money as well I think he said he was doing both
4:04
donating and doing the Dr Dre on the other hand you know he took the ice he's
4:09
too hard up for that yeah did you guys see his video where he did it yeah his was actually cool it was he did slowmo
4:17
you know do they do they all not do slow-mo because I think I saw Bill Gates and his was slowmo oh Bill Gates did slow-mo Bill Gates I think was the best
4:23
one and Hulk Hogan's Hulk Hogan did one Hulk Hogan did Two Buck brother while
4:29
ripping his shirt off he was ripping his shirt off at the same time oh really he's nearly 70 but he still got it he
4:36
still got it yeah he's like Arnold Schwarz and Egger he's forever ripped I don't know Arnold doesn't look uh as hot
4:43
as he did well he doesn't look as hot as he did but he looks a lot better than other 70 year olds it's true how old is
4:50
he now like 70 60 something he's 60 something I got to check out Terry Hogan's video so he's like literally
4:57
doing the oh yeah is going room his nipples are just like poking out he's
5:02
ripping his shirt off y Maniacs this is Hulk Hogan here and this is the alss
5:07
challenge that's why I got double buckets brother now I'm going to challenge Johnny Manzel look awesome he
5:15
challenges Sylvester Salone to it too oh did he do his video yet not yet so then
5:21
you do the Ice Bucket Challenge and then when you do it you get to Challenge three of your like friends or something to do it yeah yeah so Dr Dre challenged
5:29
Kendrick Lamar he challenged Eminem I wonder if Eminem's going to do it and oh and Snoop Dog too
5:35
that that could be a good one Snoop Dogg is just GNA put some ice cubes in his bong and dump that over his
5:42
head yeah yeah that's going to be easy for him in
5:49
other fun kind of Apple related news one of my favorite CEOs of all time Steve
5:56
bomb dog balber is back at it he's back in the spotlight where he belongs he's
6:03
yelling he's spitting everywhere he's running around with his arms in the air getting all crazy do we have any Clipper
6:10
fans here I can't hear you we're going to be hardcore Buster you said you saw
6:17
this video yeah yeah where he was at like a Clippers fan appreciation day or
6:23
something and just going nuts for everyone yes I mean you know he's celebrating his $2 billion of the
6:30
Clippers going just absolutely nuts for it did that just close or something is that why all a sudden he's in the media
6:35
about this yeah they just made it official I think a week ago or so okay
6:41
so spent two billion bucks he is the owner of the Clippers now I think this is perfect for him I'm a fan of Steve
6:47
Balmer oh I think so too he was always like the perfect like CEO SL head coach
6:52
he was already a mascot right he he's transcended CEO he is their mascot and
6:58
when I saw this video brought back so many warm memories of him screaming developers developer developer on stage
7:04
getting just as sweaty as any man could and the fans were going crazy they loved
7:10
it this is the perfect venue for him I mean in tech you got to say no one really took him seriously and
7:17
and and and tech people tend to not really be as excitable as like basketball fans this is going to be
7:23
perfect for him yeah you get to be like you know ridiculously like you know enthused about you know shoot the basket
7:30
and stuff it's perfect for him like little things which also he also quit Microsoft too this week so well now I
7:36
thought he was already Dum with Microsoft well he well he was on the board and he quit the board this week
7:42
why did why did he say he was doing that to spend more time and uh his family probably and you
7:49
know cocaine yeah cocaine
7:55
cocaine I wonder how many billions Steve Balmer bomb has left didn't he have like
8:01
39 I think he had yeah it was like the Clippers sale was you know a fraction of his money was all of his own money yeah
8:08
it was I well he probably has a leader he probably has a ownership group but I bet a majority of it is all his yeah I
8:15
would mind having two billion just laying around you don't have two Bill laying around not right
8:20
now man I can lend you some if you're bought a new car you bought another new car no no I just I just said that oh
8:29
why I came out's just mumbling things that aren't true right now holiday I mean I went on
8:35
vacation well if you haven't seen the Steve bomber video I highly encourage you to seek it out on YouTube it's
8:41
highly entertaining and as I said it warms the heart to see that he's back and back at this is just this is going
8:46
to be his his Golden Era this is where he belongs out there either that or in
8:52
uh the coliseum in Roman times fighting people with axes and stuff breaking skulls that was hardcore
8:59
hardcore baby I he would have been great in there every time he made a kill he would just
9:05
like pump his arms up and down with his battle axes and everyone would cheer throw him roses he would have been a he
9:10
would have been God in that time all right let's say we move into some actual
9:15
Apple news let's start with one of the big stories this week was that leak
9:21
schematic Here We Go Again queue up the Austin Powers sound bite why won't you
9:27
die NFC won't die there's another rumor that we're going to get NFC on iPhone 6
9:33
Buster you wrote the story why are people thinking that we may see NFC back
9:38
in iPhone 6 I don't know it's uh everybody keeps bringing this rumor back up it seems like every week There's a
9:46
this website called geek bar they found a schematic the wiring schematic for a NFC chip for the iPhone 6 um and it's by
9:54
the same people that make the M7 so I don't know uh supposedly
10:00
it's you know going to come to the iPhone 6 it's the same one that's been used by Sony and Samsung but I don't
10:06
know what do you do you think actually Apple's actually going to add NFC this year you know what you guys are going to
10:12
make fun of me I actually think this is feasible okay right after all the after all this time and the rumors that we've
10:19
heard that Apple actually might be building a payment system into the next iPhone and now that we're going to have Touch ID and you'll be able to run
10:25
around using your thumb to authorize your purchases I actually think this is plausible right now I know that um geek
10:34
bar had another rumor that was this the Qualcomm modem rumor was this the same
10:39
one Buster yeah they also did that one as well so another rumor came out from
10:44
Geek bar who I guess kind of has mixed records so you can't really we can't really take this as fact it's not like
10:50
what do you mean they have a mixed record they do or they don't they do have a mixed record they do like the same they right sometimes they're wrong
10:56
the same time that they leaked the NFC thing they also said the iPhone would get like only a gigabyte of ram but that
11:02
was actually a dam and not regular Ram so they kind of oh my yeah what
11:08
jerks felt so stupid yeah Dam everyone knows that's totally
11:13
different they do though yeah actually they do that's a good point actually I don't but
11:20
anyway Dam takes on a whole different meeting to leer KY
11:29
Buster I think your mic just disconnected all right am I here now there you go sorry I don't know Skype
11:35
just kicked my road mic off some reason a freaking jerk ah but I'm back okay
11:41
well let's talk about this Qualcomm modem the NFC you didn't already finish what about the NFC we did finish finish
11:47
a thret on it oh didn't I because we lost Buster yeah well I don't know I'd like to hear Leander what do you think
11:53
is going to happen with NFC do you think it's really going to happen or I don't know it seemed like Apple's always favoring Bluetooth out
11:59
they dissed NFC in the past right and they said it you know but it I was reading an interesting uh piece from a
12:06
um mobile payments expert was saying that um you know NFC I think is probably the easiest way to do um authentication
12:14
secure authentication for mobile payment systems and I don't think even even if Apple uses Bluetooth LE which they
12:20
seemen a favor for I beacons and stuff like that there's no secure initial handshake so it's a big um Gap in the
12:27
system and NFC bridges that so uh the thing is this expert I I read
12:32
this really long long long thing all about NFC and Bluetooth and I beacons and stuff like that and he he including in the end he still didn't think app was
12:38
going to do it I don't know why after he spend all this time saying that um you know that it was going to be
12:44
it was probably like the one necessary component um so yeah I was a little bit confused by that and I was going to write it up and then by the time I got
12:50
to the end I was like what what is this guy talking about and then it was too too long to go reread so I went out I'll
12:56
just go get lunch I just get lunch instead always a good idea um along the uh the
13:03
same lines of geek bar rumors so they also said that iPhone will iPhone 6 will
13:08
use a new qualcom modem which will increase your uh data speed by up to 50%
13:14
LTE data speed I should say MH I mean you'll definitely be chewing through your data faster but it also means that
13:20
when you put your iPhone in modem mode uh you guys can't do that I don't think but I sorry yeah uh you can connect and
13:27
actually use your data faster and it will increase theoretical speeds from 100 megabits per second to 150 megabits
13:33
per second that's pretty freaking fast I mean my crazy my Comcast uh download
13:39
speed is only 50 megabits per second on your Broadband on my Broadband yeah and
13:44
that's really fast that's really fast that's pretty fast yeah I mean in Seattle we have one of the faster Comcast offerings available I mean
13:51
granted I'm paying $690 a month for it they got a 21 F gig optic line my other
13:58
option invol tin cans and string going between the two but yeah this would
14:03
actually be awesome if they ended up implementing this and I guess this LTE modem um has been around for a while
14:10
since February of 2012 so uh it's you know commonly available and it's pretty
14:16
low energy too so you know even though you get increased data speeds you actually shouldn't really be chewing
14:21
through your battery life any faster than you normally would well who who uses it now if it's been R since 2012
14:27
what's that is it in any devices right now now if it's been around all that time um I believe so although I
14:33
couldn't wow what's that 2-year-old moden yeah I was reading that there's another newer one that's out that some
14:41
of the Android phones are using Buster go ahead yeah there's a newer one that does uh 300 megabits megabits per second
14:48
meab beats meab beats Dr Dre's phone probably the reason why Apple went
14:54
for like you know the smaller bump is just for like you said uh battery performance per well like heavy temper
15:01
high performance and Stu so yeah and I read the newer one was kind of um it
15:06
it's it's so new that they're just not really sure what its performance will be like so they want to go with like a tested technology it's weird isn't it
15:14
some of the Technologies Apple's so Cutting Edge on and yet we still don't have Blu-ray players commonly available
15:20
from Apple for any of their computers the drives I guess you'll never get one I don't think but yeah it is you know I
15:27
think sometimes on especially the like the L the LTE modems they've always had a history of waiting on that like with
15:33
the 3G they waited for that same thing with LTE they're usually the last ones to adopt it because of battery life
15:40
right well we got some more Apple stories here we're going to be talking about this other leaked um shell that
15:46
came out this week that everyone was talking about this thing actually looked pretty legitimate and apple one and Emmy
15:51
will be talking about that but before we do that um I want to play this interview
15:57
that I did with linda.com I got to talk to one of their instructors and we talked about audio
16:03
applications this guy is such a pro too he edits in logic he edits in uh all
16:10
these different audio applications he makes sound bites for movies he edits movies he edits audio and I got to have
16:16
a cool conversation with him about what applications he uses when he uses which which ones he likes most so I'm going to
16:22
play that right now I think you guys are going to enjoy it and when we come back we'll hop back into some iPhone 6 rumors
16:27
and uh we got a lot of show left stick with us we'll be right back y'all oo
16:33
that ice is so cold ooh it's so
16:38
icy I was thinking to myself really San Diego do I sound that Surfer I kind of
16:43
do I kind of do that's where I thought you were going hey guys it's aifon I'm here with Scott hir a linda.com
16:50
instructor but not only is he an instructor he's a sound designer and an editor and a mixer for a film and video
16:56
a musician an audio engineer hey Scott hey how's it going hey good and you also
17:01
teach logic pro you teach Pro Tools and you teach reason so you're kind of uh
17:06
teaching all the very popular audio editing classes is that right H yeah that's that's right I like to keep it
17:11
real keep all the programs going just so I can remember all the keystrokes from yeah that sounds like a challenge in and
17:17
of itself um and I'm actually using logic prox I'm using your um logic prox
17:22
Essentials course on linda.com I've been telling our listeners that I recently switched don't laugh I recently from
17:29
garage band to Logic Pro X cuz I wanted to edit like the big boys do yeah and it
17:34
helped me make the transition because that's a super complicated application it definitely is but it's really cool
17:40
that you can go right from garage band into logic with no problems yeah I totally agree with you I was surprised
17:46
how similar they were and um you really can go from one application to the other cuz uh as I learned from you logic prox
17:53
has an an advanced mode that you can kind of activate to really turn on the powerful features that's right so let me
17:59
ask you this which do you prefer do you prefer logic or do you prefer Pro Tools I like them both to be honest oh
18:07
come on no no seriously I I uh when I'm composing music uh working on commercial
18:13
music or even just getting sort of a demo together or something that I need to get up and running really quickly I
18:19
use logic because it's it's so fast and so easy to make a great sounding track right away and when I'm you know
18:26
recording a band or or uh a lot of times working in film and video I use Pro
18:32
Tools and I use them both interchangeably but really there's different times it's I really like to
18:37
think about applications kind of just like different instruments you know like I might play a Fender Telecaster for one
18:44
song and I might play a a gibes in Les Paul for another song and there's reasons why you would choose one over
18:49
the other and I like to choose apps Audio Apps for the same reasons there's there's they kind of do the same thing
18:55
in the end a lot of them all have the same goal you can record a band as just as well in logic as you can in Protools
19:02
I've heard that logic pro X is better for creating music and Protools is better for creating audio effects maybe
19:08
editing a movie editing a podcast what do you say to that I think there's some truth in that a little bit although
19:14
again like if you wanted to make music with Protools you just have to use it
19:19
and get around some of the ideas of it and you can make just as much music in protols as you can in logic like
19:25
ultimately if you look at sort of the specs they all they both both do almost identically the same thing there's just
19:31
a slightly different way of going about it so one I think in logic is it's a much faster and it's much more of a
19:38
complete package which is really cool because you you buy the the application which is actually incredibly cheap for
19:44
what you get I might add like under $200 yeah how much is Protools it changes all the time so I'm not even going to quote
19:50
a price or anything like that um but uh what you don't get with Protools as much
19:55
as you do with logic is in comprehensive set of struments and samples and other stuff you do get some things with Pro
20:01
Tools but logic you have a very comprehensive tool to make incredible sounding music with so for that kind of
20:07
thing you know for someone who just wants to make a really good sounding track right away it's awesome you know and I would say the same thing on the
20:14
other side of the coin for Protools is someone wanting to edit uh sound for movie um or just get into basic sound
20:20
design just the functionality and the way that it can work with that kind of stuff is is awesome too so again there's
20:25
just different times different reasons I tell my students learn them all like really you you need to have it's like
20:31
part of your toolkit as an audio professional what could people expect going through something like your logic
20:38
prox Essentials course what could people expect to learn about logic from maybe
20:44
not knowing anything to going through the end of that course yeah well my goal
20:49
is to get past the initial learning curve you can expect to not be a pro
20:55
expert at logic but you'll know how to use it and from there you can take your own course and practice and go farther
21:00
along but it won't be a a scary mystery which it is for some people because it's the reason why it's so awesome is
21:06
because it's also so complex um and you know it can be a little intimidating at first but that's the point of this
21:12
course is to get you past that so you feel comfortable and you're able to make music or a podcast or a podcast exactly
21:20
any other um audio courses you want to plug while I got you here I do I there's
21:25
one course that exists and it's called synth programming Basics so you're into synthesis uh which a lot of people are
21:32
these days uh they're pretty intimidating at first and so this course is designed to get you to understand
21:38
what goes into synthesis we're talking about oscillators um filters lfos all these
21:44
fun things that just make the craziest sounds you can ever imagine well I've been talking with Scott and if you're interested in learning about logic proex
21:51
if you're interested in learning about synths interested about learning about Pro Tools you want to learn more about how to edit a podcast or music go check
21:58
out out Scott's courses head on over to linda.com cultcast and when you do
22:04
you'll get a 7-Day free trial so you can learn all you want you might even be able to make it through all Scott's
22:09
courses if you don't sleep at all and don't eat you can make it through all of it in 7 days but but if you don't that's
22:15
okay cuz you can revisit the material anytime you want you can search for stuff that you forgot find it and
22:21
revisit it later head on over to linda.com codcast start your free trial I want to thank Linda for sponsoring
22:27
this episode SC thanks for joining me for a little while it's been fun talking with you airon thank you very much too
22:33
it's been a
22:42
blast so my body part who who was the guy that dumped the water on Tim Cookie's head oh God do himself no I was
22:51
a musician I can't remember his name girl no it was the Apple bear bash right on the Friday night yeah this dude with
22:57
long dread I can't remember his name some like activist musician he's an activist yeah
23:05
for diversity week jeez you know what I was actually surprised that Apple seems to be they released that diversity
23:11
report they actually seem like they're pretty diverse I mean they got a lot of white guys working there but they have
23:16
their percentage of um white people working there is actually less or more
23:22
than the percentage of white people in the US so they're doing pretty good what the percent of white people work in
23:27
apple is like wait am I saying this backwards hold on wait you're saying
23:32
it's actually wider than the general population they're actually more diverse than the general population their that's
23:39
what I've been yeah trying to say and feeling miserably at exactly that that it's almost exclusively because of the
23:46
um retail stores right you think so yeah I think so I think that's that's where the that's where the diversity you know
23:52
and you know is comes from is the fact they employ you know um more women and
23:59
um ethnic minorities in the stores not necessarily at Apple HQ so they're they're working on improving their
24:05
diversity and their actual Corporate Offices yeah right okay that's good they they you know they they updated their
24:11
page I mean the the executive page you know all the top Executives I mean it's almost all white white people men yeah
24:18
and then but then the next level down it was looking pretty pasty on that page yeah it was yeah hard to see the faces
24:24
against the white background there yeah I was like are there any photos here I don't see any but uh the next level down
24:29
at the sort of Vice President level you know there was um there was a little more diversity then and a lot more women so that's great excuse me all right
24:37
let's jump right back into it Buster you probably saw this leaked iPhone 6 that
24:42
came out and it looked like it was the first one that we've seen that was actually fully assembled mhm what' you
24:47
think about it real not real uh I think it it looks probably real it looks
24:52
gorgeous it looks really good did you see it Lander uh no I well I yeah I I
24:58
didn't I didn't study it I just saw the headline yeah I saw a picture it looked great yeah it looks really awesome I think the thing that concerns me though
25:04
is we keep seeing the 47s the 4.7 the parts we actually haven't really seen very much for the 5.5 at all Buster have
25:12
you seen anything that that makes you think it actually exists there was like a uh like a home home button Flex cable
25:19
very exciting part a few weeks ago those are leander's favorite kind of parts he gets so he texts me like no matter what
25:26
time of day or night dude Flex cables check out this Flex cable but I think
25:31
that's the only thing and that was you know for a 5.5 iPhone but as far as like
25:37
rear shells front displays I don't think we've seen anything I recently uh was reading that story about how that tie
25:44
official tweeted about two new iPhone 6 models if you haven't read the story apparently Thailand has this rule where
25:51
people who are going to be releasing new hardware have to talk about it with the Thai government and then they have to
25:57
make an announcement that this Hardware is coming out and apparently this tie official thought he was you know being
26:04
discreet about the new Apple iPhones but he tweeted about the fact that there were two new iPhone 6 models that had
26:10
been approved to be shipped into Thailand and at first this got me really excited cuz I thought oh this is going
26:17
to be like a 4.7 and a 5.5 iPhone 6 but the more I thought about it it kind of
26:23
seems to point towards like an iPhone 5c type model and then a regular
26:29
right that's what I was thinking I mean just cuz he said there's two new models that could definitely just be the 5c
26:34
like apple released last year exactly cuz there could there I mean you would think there would need to be three models the base model the the four the 4
26:42
inish model and then like the larger one so now I'm kind of thinking this actually means that we're not going to
26:47
see a 5.5 yeah I mean there haven't been a ton of signs for the 5.5 at all so I
26:53
wouldn't get my hopes up to see it next month yeah unfortunately not let's talk about apples Emmy we talked about this
27:01
quite a while ago there was a commercial that came out with the angst ridden
27:07
teen yeah Leander describe anything in your life your teens aren't really in
27:12
ridden though well they they're Moody and they're always on their devices I mean there was um yeah you know I was
27:18
just looking through my pictures from our vacation and they look there they are on their iPhones and here they are on their iPhones and here they taking
27:23
selfies with their iPhones did they smile at all during the vacation yeah they smil they pretty good time they're
27:28
not that Moody so this teen in this commercial um if you recall it was like a Christmas Time commercial he was not
27:36
really interacting with his family and he kind of seemed to be disconnected from all the celebration and at the end
27:42
it was um shown that he had been recording everything on his iPhone and he edited everything together and he
27:48
really was such a deep feeler after all and everyone was like so touched I actually thought it was a really good commercial it was a clever ad yeah it
27:54
was a really clever ad and uh they won an Emmy for that beating out um ads from
28:01
Budweiser who makes just just excellent actually their ads are really good you
28:06
got good some some a so good and let's see who else did they beat
28:12
out no I didn't write it here oh there we go General Electric really they had a great ad and then Nike who also makes
28:19
good ads so Apple has added an Emy to uh their roster of awards I'm glad to see
28:26
they're back on track remember the Apple Genius or the uh what are they called the Apple genius genius commercials
28:32
where that guy was like in like three of them and then he disappeared from the face of the Earth you guys know what I'm talking about no remember it was like
28:38
the guy goes into like the Apple Store he needs something fixed and the genius was there and he was really upbeat and he was trying to help him you don't even
28:45
remember it's wiped from your memory banks Buster you remember this genius the genius ads with the dude the
28:51
annoying dude on like the plane and like this is your captain is there an Apple Genius on board I'm a genius forgot
28:58
board the flight can you help me make this eye photo presentation yeah they were horrible they're back on track um
29:06
another cool Apple news Apple stock is back at an alltime high it looks like it
29:11
closed recently at $100 153 which uh the pre-split price on that was
29:18
70210 this just makes me wish that I had uh still cut my Apple stock apparently
29:24
there was a 1.4% rise in their stock recently people were saying that it's because RBC and morg and Morgan Stanley
29:31
are claiming that Apple's fall lineup is going to be more extraordinary than ever
29:37
what do you think Leander alha product line more extraordinary than ever yeah I
29:42
know are you excited I know how you love hyperbole I was but now have to listen to this podcast now I'm now I'm wondering if there's going to be a big
29:48
fablet F phone after all and now I'm going to go dump on my Stu I mean I'm
29:54
bummed out I wouldn't do that I love I think my favorite part about this story is Carl icon on Twitter said I believed
30:01
Apple would be one of my no-brainers anyone who invested at that time would be up 53% including dividends who is
30:09
this guy he's like 80 years old isn't he he's on Twitter telling us all how it was just like oh this is a no-brainer
30:14
for me I invested and I'm up 53% right he's he's always boasting about how much stuck he's got now he's got and he's is
30:21
he now one of the biggest single shareholders yeah he's got over like 4 billion shares of Apple yeah so he's
30:28
pumping it up I heard two things though I mean you know some people are saying that like it's still underpriced mhm oh
30:34
I mean when you think about it it could be yeah right coming out right I mean I know
30:41
yeah exactly and even just um what was the the uh yeah with the Health Data you know the whole the whole health kit just
30:47
health kit alone if it brought in Health Data and allow people to manage their data could be worth billions of dollars
30:54
um but then other people are saying it's like uh you know a lot of these big investment houses are to pump it up right to try to cash out now get some
31:00
profit well that's the thing about Carl ion so he's on Twitter all the time and he's always talking about Apple does he
31:06
have a legal requirement to be doing this because if not it does kind of seem that he is just pumping up his own stock
31:12
oh I think there's a lot of investors who could definitely be uh pumping up Apple's stock for sure with you know
31:18
these expectations that the product pipeline's going to be huge I don't know if I can is doing that I mean he's been
31:24
saying the same thing for over a year but I think you know there was like like a big flurry of reports over the last
31:30
like week that were just like super positive for Apple you know like all the
31:35
hires that they made a year ago are suddenly like oh a great idea you know huh what what was Carl Carl icon doing
31:42
before you know talking about Apple on Twitter was he just like some prolific investor that just had a bunch of billions of dollars sitting around yeah
31:48
he's always been a very famous investor he's you know activist investor who usually invests in companies to try to
31:55
uh get them to change up you know what they're doing in past oh didn't he I think he
32:04
did he wanted uh eBay to break off PayPal I think he okay was the last big
32:10
thing that he was really pushing for pretty good idea but yeah I mean he was big in the 80s why didn't you think
32:16
about that Leander back when uh you know like uh hostile takeovers were were invogue you know where his company his
32:23
investment firm would buy billions of shares and take over a company you know eat the get the profits and then you
32:30
know go off to the next one yeah barbarians of the gate yeah you know who he kind of reminds me of and from his
32:36
like Twitter picture and like all the pictures I see about him on uh on the internet who any ideas any guesses I'm
32:44
I'm gonna for me it's always uh what's it called from Wall Street the Gordon gecko on the way like an old Gordon
32:50
gecko that's a good one yeah leand does he remind you of anyone you know I uh I
32:56
I'd have to go look at some pictures look what he looks like to me he looks if you put him in a robe and give him a hat he's going to look exactly like San
33:03
Your Love of the half things Leaf has clearly slowed your
33:09
mind Rings he looks every time I look at him I'm like dude that's soromon he
33:14
needs a longer beard and just needs a longer beard and one of those orbs that you can use to communicate with yeah
33:21
saon all right anyway um me Christopher Le is that his name yeah yeah he's a
33:27
famous British actor he's British too yeah wow I didn't know that all the best actors are what was his that's very very
33:34
true what was his biggest film before he was doing the Lord of the Rings movies
33:39
like what do you remember him for H he's been in a million one things um he was
33:45
you know the General in um oh no I'm sorry that was uh oh oh my goodness I don't know he's played Dracula
33:51
Frankenstein he's been in 101 really bad British bee movies oh he's been in a lot
33:56
of bad British movies really he's more famous in Brit I can't think now though what he's uh most famous for um I'm
34:03
going to have to cheat all right I'll come back to you with that sear I'll expect a full report
34:09
let's talk about podcasting before we head on over to uh get to know your
34:15
cultist podcasting has officially turned 10 years old guys happy
34:20
birthday dang We Are the Champions I thought this was pretty cool
34:26
and I wanted to read you guys some facts about podcasting because as a medium it's growing and I kind of feel like we
34:33
came into podcasting late but apparently we're still on The Cutting Edge of Technology here because most people
34:39
still don't listen to podcasts although from 2011 forward they've actually been growing like crazy and if you listen to
34:46
podcasts you are in good company cuz strangely enough here are some interesting statistics about podcasting
34:53
odds are if you listen to a podcast you are I'm about I'm about to blow someone's mind right here cuz I'm about
34:59
to read them everything about their life you are a Hispanic male age 18 to 29 you
35:06
have a college degree and you make between $50,000 and $775,000 a year I
35:12
was kind of surprised that most of the listeners are males but I looked at our numbers and guess what our percentage of
35:18
male listeners is it's probably over 80% Leander what do you think
35:24
97% actually leander's pretty close wow our listenership is according to our
35:29
statistics is 92% male sausage Club it's the saus the the
35:37
sausage cast it's like when you go to one of those parties that your friends invite
35:43
you to and if they tell you it's going to be really fun you get there and it's just all dudes they're dancing together and stuff
35:50
like you're kind of like yeah I don't really know if I want to hang out here anymore but podcasting has turned 10
35:57
years old and it's growing like crazy as a medium I'm kind of curious in the next
36:04
5 to 10 years if it's going to keep up this kind of growth because I really enjoy podcasts uh I that's probably how I
36:11
consume most of my entertainment and there's so many great podcasts out there now that you watch TV I hardly ever
36:19
watch TV you just listen the podcast almost never see I would say I'm the opposite I hardly I never listen to podcast you had
36:27
to listen to this one so many times being a part of this one like be
36:33
anything good out there enough to put you off forever well Leander do you ever listen to podcast or is this the only one that you that you listen to because
36:40
you have to well I've um I started uh trying to download some music podcasts to try to find some good music ones but
36:46
you know you can never find anything that like you can never find any good music no really you should try um I've
36:52
actually been using a new podcast app called overcast Buster have you tried it
36:57
from Marco AR yeah so I bring this up because I've recently been playing with
37:04
it and it's great because a it's free so you can download it it's free it has advanced features that cost about five
37:10
bucks but so far I haven't turned any of those on because I haven't needed to and I know there's a lot of people out there
37:15
that use the Apple podcast app to listen to our podcast and some people have
37:21
problems with it I haven't really but the uh overcast app is really welld designed and has a lot of really great
37:26
features and plus Leander has a discovery feature so if you want to you know listen to like an apple podcast or
37:33
like a Tech podcast and you're not really sure what you what what you want to listen to like a music podcast it will actually make suggestions for you I
37:40
think it's I think it's kind of like rudimentary suggestions like here are the most popular ones check this out does the cultcast come up on there um no
37:48
it doesn't can't support it we're g we're going to talk to them about that yeah we'll definitely I'll send Mark an
37:54
email I'm sure he'll uh or Marco jump right on that yeah right yeah we need to be like in the top Tech section don't
38:00
you agree like NPR Tech TED Talks Tech
38:05
cultcast I think that's appropriate position for us in any case it's cool that podcasting is growing and it's hard
38:12
to believe it's only been around for 10 years and it really makes me respect guys like uh like like Matt cast or like
38:18
podcast like the Matt cast that has been around for like the entire time because it's gotten to be so much more uh usable
38:26
now I mean anyone can download podcast and before from what I understand it was really kind of like an archaic process
38:31
to even get these things on you onto your I guess your your iPod remember we we didn't have iPhones back then we
38:37
should move on to our get to know your cultist but before we do that I want to talk to you guys about Squarespace and
38:44

39:56
entire website on Squarespace we didn't do any coding at all it was just drag and drop it was such a an easy
40:02
experience to build this website and the website I think looks great it's basic website you looking at it right now yeah
40:10
I mean it's just kind of a basic website but it looks good on iPhone looks good on an iPad and uh it's going to be the
40:16

40:22
show on your iPhone or something and uh you want to see the show notes as well head on over to the cult C pass.com if

to thank Squarespace for sponsoring this episode and come check out our website the cultcast dcom tell us what you think
41:17
you know comment on an episode or something tell us how much you love us okay guys let's move on to a all new get
41:23
to know your cultist this is a segment where we have our listeners ask questions that we then answer we got a
41:29
couple of good questions here uh the first one actually before I tell you who it's from we're giving away cult kasozi
41:36
so we choose your question oh make sure you reach out to me on Facebook on Twitter whichever medium you use to uh
41:42
donate your question and if you give me your address we will send you a cultcast beer koozie we've got some extras from
41:49
our cult cast party those are arguably one of the best parts of our party yeah do you have any yuzzi left I still got
41:56
mine right here nice you need to put a beer in that guy that's what you need to do okay this question is from Mark Allen
42:05
he asks if God forbid Apple products suddenly vanished what other Tech would
42:11
you get I.E smartphones laptops tablets etc
42:17
etc Buster what do you got okay Sony man I love Sony I think they always have
42:23
like I don't know I really have like before I liked Apple I thought Sony always had like really cool futuristic
42:29
stuff obviously they've fallen off over the last decade but I think before Apple was like the Cool brand Sony was like
42:36
making some really cool stuff Leander having written the book on Steve Jobs he was really inspired by Sony too wasn't
42:42
he yeah he loves so Sony yeah he had uh I mean he wanted Apple to be yeah originally the sort of the Sony of the
42:47
computer industry so that was a big model for him yeah point he did that and then destroyed
42:55
them yeah is always like trying like crazy stuff that's why I like them like their cameras you know they cram like a
43:02
full sensor into like a mirrorless camera their you know smartphones aren't
43:07
the best but they look really cool so as far as looks go I think Sony's got some cool stuff I used to have a Sony
43:13
minidisk player before the iPods existed in order to get music on to it you had to record it in real time so I would
43:20
leave my minidisk player connected to my computer all night long playing music
43:25
and that way when I uh went the the next day it had like seven or eight hours of music on it it was just like a digital
43:31
tape recorder but it was beautiful it was like sparkly metallic blue yeah it I always wanted one of those but they
43:38
never really took off so you know yeah I barely used mine either after after I grew weary of actually spending eight
43:45
hours putting music on it uh Leander what uh what tech would you be into uh well Sonos I guess can I use oh
43:53
gosh they don't make computers it can be any Tech you you can go with Sonos I
43:59
should have seen this coming I apologize to everybody listening well you know they they've got
44:04
that they've created the ecosystem right you know the software and the services no one else is doing that that's the problem with Sony right they they don't
44:11
they they do the nice Hardware but they do not they have really bad software yeah and they don't have any Internet services and these days you got to build
44:17
you can't just build a gadget I mean it's got to connect to something um and have good software have a good UI and
44:23
sonus I think is probably the best um you know the best out there in fact I I you know I think there's apple and Sonos
44:29
and that's about it I don't know I suppose that's not fair but let me ask you this could Sonos exist without Apple
44:37
what do you mean totally they did before so you can stream stuff to your Sonos I I don't have a lot of experience with
44:42
the Sonos you can stream stuff to your Sonos from other devices just as easily yeah yeah and they've got this Universal
44:48
search now like the their new version of their app which just came out like a month or two ago um has you know this
44:53
Universal search it'll search across all the different Services you connect to and it's great I mean this is the way the Apple TV and in fact any media
44:59
player should be it's totally put in the way for every single media player on the planet I mean know like on the Apple TV
45:05
instead of going in instead of you know you got to go through and search each individual app you know you got to go look on Netflix oh is that movie there or in the movie app or whatever you know
45:12
here you have a universal search and you put in what what you know you search for your band Bob Dylan or whatever and
45:17
it'll tell you if it's if it's in beats playlists if it's on Spotify if it's in your own music library what Pandora
45:23
stations there are it's great it's you know it's kind Xbox One universal search works too like if you're doing a search
45:30
you can just say I want to watch hook and it will be like okay Hook's available on Hulu it's available on
45:35
Netflix it's available on Amazon which one do you want to watch is that kind of similar to how it works yeah yeah yeah exactly yeah yeah makes it way I mean
45:42
way easier to use rather than searching for for each app individually yeah so I mean if I yeah Xbox you know um I didn't
45:49
know that but uh if um I mean if they good on if they've you know why why doesn't everyone do that this way they should Apple should buy Sonos they
45:57
really should no for sure it kind of makes a lot of sense doesn't it I mean they have very similar philosophies on design and and that kind of thing so it
46:03
seems like it be a natural fit yeah or Beach should buy Sonos either way it would fold in pretty easily with them
46:09
right that's a good that's a good that's a good idea that's a great idea let's tell to him I'm GNA email him right now hold on I'm texting him hey y'all it's
46:16
me I'm sure you get a you'll get a fee for that uh Sonos by Dr Dre that's the next
46:22
product they're going to release it's going to be red that's the only difference okay um uh let's see my favorite
46:29
technology gosh this is a tough question this is a tough question I'm going to go
46:35
with Tesla I those are kind of big gadgets right CU they don't have any like gasoline powered parts so it's all
46:42
just like Electronics it's all coal powered yeah it's all coal powered hey it could be sun powerered no it's wind
46:49
powered yeah did you hear about their new version where they're adding a windmill to the top of it charges you
46:54
drive I'm just joking that's not true um I love they just did add they added Infinity miles warranty right they did
47:02
yeah and so they had a uh they changed their business practices so now they
47:08
used to have a mileage warranty plus a Time warranty so like you know like 100,000 miles or seven years they just
47:13
they got rid of the mileage altogether like you can have as many miles on this car as you want as long as it's within this time period we'll fix any problems
47:19
that it has oh that's nice which is very admirable because you know Elon Musk
47:25
just keeps doing things that are benefiting the consumer instead of benefiting his own company which I think
47:30
people really respect about him that's how spins it and I imagine you know I bet they looked at the stats I mean
47:36
there's you know there must be one person who does more than you know infinite miles right who does who does
47:42
they're going to be only a few allies yeah but you know like companies like Honda it's great PR but they only give
47:47
what a 36,000 mile warranty or something or I don't think they're very long and Hondas go forever I mean yeah I I
47:54
thought most of them was 100,000 now was a standard are they I don't know I've never bought a new car so maybe I'm not the best guy to answer that question I
48:00
don't think I've owned a car made before or after the year 2000 yeah as far as I know it's I think
48:06
100,000 is the standard now but I could be wrong but you know the time it's not it's you know the kicker there is the
48:12
time warranty is the time limit right so it's not they they won't warrant it for you know forever it's it's eight years
48:18
or whatever you know that would be pretty awesome though but still he's a savy guy and definitely they have beautiful things have you ever driven
48:24
one I've never actually driven one no but but um like a lot of people who like cars I just I just think they're
48:31
beautiful I I think what they're doing to change the way uh people buy cars is really amazing and ever since I drove
48:38
that electric BMW at CES I mean that thing is second slower than the model S
48:44
so I can only imagine it would be really kind of fun to drive and I'm just into cars I just I like cars even though
48:49
mine's kind of old and crappy they dream about the day I might own a nicer one you go down for a test drive I should I
48:56
should I should up really nicely yeah and go down for a test drive like uh yes
49:01
I have taken a break from my lawyering job to come down here and test drive this automobile that I can totally
49:09
afford who's going to take me for a ride in this automobile yeah good Lu with that I'm going to try it uh okay second
49:15
question final question this one comes from makiel vanor I hope I said that
49:21
right I apologize if I didn't uh he says stolen from Reddit but I'd like to see what you guys come up with
49:27
you save President Obama's life and he owes you a favor what favor do you ask
49:33
for Leander well you want to have those felonies cleared from your
49:41
record those felony flashing charges cleared from your record flashing I think that's the last crime
49:47
I'm going to be committing more of a cover uper I saw
49:53
your collection of trench codes don't lie what favor would I ask yeah
49:58
yeah ask going to go to Ferguson I think and say something that was like a little more you know impactful than the
50:04
statements he's been making so far how Noble of you do something for the people well yeah that's been on my mind the
50:09
last few days so uh that's the first thing that popped into my head okay Buster what do you got I want a lifetime
50:16
