Hey, what's up guys, Stephen Culls of Mac here and in this video I'm going to be taking
0:05
a quick look at the iXtra case, which is currently on Kickstarter with just over 2 weeks to go
0:11
It aims to combat two of the iPhone's biggest letdowns, storage and battery life
0:15
So here I have a prototype version of the iXtra, which is for the iPhone 6 and 6s, but
0:21
they're already creating an iPhone 7 version which will have the correct cutouts for the
0:24
camera and will also include an integrated audio jack for those of you planning to use
0:28
your existing headphones without an adapter. But as I don't have an iPhone 6 to hand, I'm going to be using my iPhone 7 in place, which
0:35
still seems to work no problem. The case itself will give your iPhone a decent amount of protection and it feels great in
0:41
the hand thanks to the leather finish on the back, which comes in black and red at the moment, with the possibility of more colours if they reach their stretch goal
0:48
The only bad mark I can give against it is that it seems as if the leather back could easily peel away from the corners if I tried, or perhaps even over time
0:56
Hopefully this is just because it's a prototype and the finish on the final case will be to
1:00
a higher standard. It comes in either 64 or 128GB configurations, with a 1700mAh battery for the 6 and 6s and
1:08
a 2000mAh battery for the 6 and 6s Plus, so you'll be able to double your battery life
1:14
Now they're not the first company to combine extra battery capacity and memory in a case
1:18
the obvious comparison would be Mophie's space pack. The cases are very similar in spec, in terms of size, battery life and storage, so iXtra
1:26
is obviously hoping to compete by having a slightly lower price point, but the deal
1:30
is definitely at the early bird price of $80. The case itself has no on or off switches or indicators which the company is advertising
1:37
as ease of use. Instead, the case will automatically begin charging your iPhone once it reaches below
1:42
20%, although I personally prefer to have some sort of LED indicator as well as an on
1:46
off switch, so I can enable the charging ability when I'd like to, as well as being able to
1:51
check the charge of the case without accessing the companion app. On the app though, you can send files from your phone to the case, set it up to automatically
1:57
sync files and folders to it, check your battery life and storage and protect all of the files
2:02
stored using a passcode or touch ID. The app needs a little work, once you've played with it for a few minutes, it becomes simple
2:08
enough to add folders, save files, adjust the settings and check the stats of the case
2:14
It's nicely designed and works well most of the time, but it still feels like it's in need
2:18
of a little polishing off. A few times when using it, it functions wouldn't work unless I closed the app and went back
2:23
into it. Hopefully by the time of launch though, all of that will be fixed
2:27
Overall, it's a great offering and I can't wait to see that iPhone 7 case to see how
2:31
they're going to incorporate the headphone jack. If you're interested in picking up the iXtra case, I'd definitely do it now to access that
2:37
early bird price of $80, at that, it's a steal. Well, that's it for this video, if you'd like to find out more about the iXtra case or even
2:45
