0:05
hey everyone today I'm going to show you
0:06
how you can reset either an
0:07
administrator password or user password
0:09
in OS 10 so uh in the past it was really
0:13
difficult to reset an administrator
0:15
password if you'd forgot it in OS 10
0:17
because if you were missing your install
0:20
dis you had to go through this weird
0:23
process with the command line and a
0:24
whole bunch of stuff and even if you had
0:26
the install dis you had to you know find
0:28
it get it out boot off of it but now
0:30
with OS 10 lion it's much easier to
0:34
reset your OS 10 master password so I'm
0:37
going to show you how to do that today
0:38
so this process does require uh at least
0:41
Mac OS 10 lion when Mountain Li comes
0:44
out this will also work with it so as
0:46
you might know OS 10 includes a recovery
0:49
HD so basically it's a separate
0:52
partition on your hard drive that OS 10
0:53
automatically creates when it installs
0:56
and it gives you all the utilities that
0:57
you normally find on an OS install dis
1:00
but it combines them right in your hard
1:02
drive so in case something would go
1:04
wrong you can boot right off of there
1:05
instead so with that being said the
1:07
first step you're going to need to do is
1:09
restart your computer so when you
1:11
restart your computer as soon as you
1:13
hear the Apple chime you're going to
1:14
want to hold down the option key and
1:17
that's important so that you get to your
1:19
startup menu where you can choose what
1:21
drive you want to start up from so at
1:24
this point you should see this screen
1:25
here where you can choose which drive
1:26
you want to start up from and since I
1:28
have M line and line inst you see a lot
1:30
of discs but but what I'm going to want
1:32
to do is go over to the dis that says
1:35
recovery HD and hit enter to start up
1:38
right from there so at this point you
1:39
should see this menu here where you can
1:41
choose a variety of different things
1:42
that You' want to do with your computer
1:44
but we're not going to worry about any
1:45
of these we're going to go to the menu
1:46
bar instead up in the utilities menu you
1:49
want to select terminal and from there
1:51
it'll launch terminal for you in
1:54
terminal you're going to want to enter
1:55
the reset password command which is just
1:57
reset password as one word and then you
1:59
can hit enter
2:00
so from here you'll see a window that
2:02
lets you select the volume containing
2:03
the user account that you want to reset
2:04
the password on and in my case I have
2:07
two different drives here but I'm going
2:08
to select Macintosh HD and then the user
2:11
account below which is Michael steber so
2:14
not only can I select from any user
2:16
account I can also select the system
2:17
administrator root too and then from
2:19
there I can just enter a new password
2:21
for the account and confirm it and enter
2:23
a password hand once you have everything
2:25
filled out it's as easy as just clicking
2:27
the save button you'll see a little box
2:29
that says login password reset and you
2:31
can hit okay and you're all done from
2:33
here it's just as easy as quitting OS 10
2:35
utilities and then going back over when
2:36
it prompts you to choose the startup dis
2:38
and from there choosing the hard drive
2:40
you use with your computer hitting
2:42
restart and waiting for it to restart
2:45
once your computer rest started it's as
2:47
easy as just logging in with your new
2:48
credentials and you should all be ready
2:50
to go uh that's as easy is as it is to
2:54
reset your OS 10 password in lion or
2:57
above M lion also works with the same
2:59
principle
3:00
so if you have anything that you'd like
3:02
to see me make a howto video on whether
3:03
it be on OS 10 or iOS make sure to send
3:06
me an email that's about all this is
3:08
