Hey, what's up guys, Steve from Cult of Mac here and there are a ton of questions surrounding
0:05
the upcoming iPhone 7, the biggest of which is the exciting dual lens camera
0:10
One week it's coming, the next it isn't. But maybe you're asking yourself, why would I even want one
0:16
Well in this video I'm going to explain to you why a dual lens camera is great for any iPhone
0:21
So, let's get started. Dual camera phones aren't anything new
0:37
The HTC One M8 was actually one of the first mainstream smartphones to deliver one back
0:42
in 2014. It used one camera to capture regular images and the other to record depth perception data
0:48
This allowed users to apply different effects to fake depth of field, slightly change the
0:52
angle of a photo, or add other effects that can react around or behind an object or person
0:57
But when it comes to the iPhone, Apple is likely to use two identical sensors, like
1:02
LG did with the G5. On LG's phone, they allow you to capture one close up image and a second wider shot, every
1:08
time you snap a photo. Though I suspect Apple has something more exciting in mind
1:12
Apple will probably use sensor technology that it's acquired when purchasing Israeli
1:16
company Lynx Imaging for a mere $20 million. It uses something called Array Camera Technology, which consists of multi-aperture cameras to
1:23
improve the overall image quality, plus algorithms and camera architecture that boost resolution
1:29
low-light performance and colour accuracy. Tests of Lynx's cameras against the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S4 show that two 4MP cameras
1:37
produced better images than one 8MP sensor. The photos were sharper, more colourful and contained less noise overall
1:44
But that doesn't mean Apple won't use the dual cameras to add some extra features like
1:48
HTC did. Whilst improving overall quality, the Lynx cameras can also use depth information to
1:53
create 3D images from the flat photos. Of course, all of these demonstrations are well over two years old, so the technology
1:59
in Apple's hands could be much more capable and much more exciting than it was
2:03
Should the company deliver that dual lens camera this year, then you can look forward to significantly better photos from your phone, and some extra gimmicks that will be fun to
2:11
play with. Well, that's it for this video, but let me know in the comments down below what you think
2:16
Apple would do with a dual lens camera. Also, if you enjoyed this video and you like the 3D concepts, hit that like button down
