In the world of computer setups, I see lots of people with two displays, loads of people with one ultra-wide display and tons of people arguing over which is best. Today’s M4 Mac mini user loves his Samsung ultra-wide monitor, which is one I haven’t seen often. But it looks like a keeper for both Mac and PC setups. And it’s deeply discounted right now.

Today’s extremely neat Mac mini, MacBook Pro and iPad Air 5 setup comes from Reddtor oscar-o-c in a post entitled, “WFH/Study setup! I think this is the best it’s gonna get!” He runs an M4 Mac mini (16GB memory, 512GB SSD storage), a 2020 Intel-powered MacBook Pro, an HP laptop for work and an M1 iPad Air 5 in the workstation with a 34-inch Samsung Viewfinity S5 ultra-wide monitor and Logitech MX input devices, all on a Flexispot standing desk.
Commenters seemed most interested in the big display and its striking Chicago skyline wallpaper. One person wanted to know how the mini connects to the display.
“To my Mac mini it’s connected via Thunderbolt to DisplayPort via this cable,” Oscar replied.
“I love your screen,” said another person, “unfortunately it seems to have many questionable reviews on Amazon!” Oscar replied by saying the Samsung ultra-wide display have been great to him so far.
Samsung ultra-wide monitor
Oscar’s 34-inch Samsung ViewFinity S5 Series ultra-wide display with 1440p resolution, elegantly mounted over the desk via a Monoprice monitor arm, is a nice one. On Amazon, it gets a star rating of 4.3 out of 5 off 3,070 reviews (82% of reviews are 4 or 5 stars). And right now you can get it for $379.99 $229.99 (39% off).
Display features:

- Brightness (Typical) : 300 cd/㎡
- Static Contrast Ratio 3000:1
- HDR10 displays over 1 billion colors compared to 16.7 million for typical SDR technology.
- An ambient light sensor on the monitor detects lighting in your workstation and automatically adjusts brightness. Eye Saver Mode minimizes excessive blue light. Flicker Free relieves eye strain.
- A 100Hz refresh rate updates the image on screen more often every second. It also reduces lag and motion blur when playing games or watching videos.
- AMD Radeon FreeSync keeps the refresh rate of your monitor and graphics card in sync to reduce image tearing.
