Apple seeded the iOS 27.2 Release Candidate to beta testers on Monday, signaling that eager iPhone users should circle October 26 on their calendars. The update improves Group FaceTime calls, adds more languages to Siri AI and more.
The macOS Golden Gate 27.2 Release Candidate was also released, as have equivalents for iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV and more.
iOS 27.2 brings new features to your iPhone
Apple released iOS 27 in September. But now with iOS 27.2 just days away, don’t go looking frantically for iOS 27.1 — you won’t find it. Apple is reportedly reserving it for the upcoming iPhone Duo.
Which means everyone with a current iPhone model should look ahead to iOS 27.2. It’s been in beta testing for weeks, so we already have a very good idea of what will be included.
The update will bring support for five additional languages in the revamped Siri AI: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. It is also expected to add Dual Capture to Group FaceTime calls, allowing participants to share views from their front and rear cameras simultaneously.
Other new features in iOS 27.2 include user profiles in the Apple TV app and contextual suggestions in Messages that can turn information in conversations into calendar events or reminders.
Apple Podcasts is getting a redesigned Up Next section, while Apple Books and Apple Music will receive interface tweaks. And, of course, there will be bug fixes and system refinements.
Just note that while these changes are in the betas, Apple could tweak or postpone them before the public release.
iOS 27.2 release date: October 26
iPhone users should expect to access the new features and bug fixes when iOS 27.2 launches on Monday, October 26. That’s if Apple holds to its long-held habit of introducing new iOS versions exactly a week after the Release Candidates go out to beta testers, of course.
That said, there are no hard-and-fast rules, so perhaps the iOS 27.2 release date will be October 27 or even October 28. Still, Monday is the most likely option.
And macOS, watchOS, and more
Apple typically introduces updates for all its operating systems at the same time. So if iOS gets a new version next Wednesday, then macOS Golden Gate 27.2 should be available too.
watchOS 27.2 is expected at the same time, and should restore the familiar app switcher… sort of. tvOS 27.2 will bring Siri AI to many older Apple TV models.
iPadOS 27.2, also expected on October 26, will include many of the same changes as iOS 27.2. And there’s visionOS 27.2, too.
In the meantime, those interested can install the release candidates. These give third-party software developers and other beta testers one last opportunity to look over the final versions of operating systems before they’re introduced to average users.

That’s because he’s a “tablet first” type of guy. Rather than use a Macbook, he connects a keyboard case to the iPad. And instead of a desktop Mac, he connects his tablet to a 27-inch display and full-size keyboard. (So don’t try to tell him that everyone has to use a Mac to be productive.)
