The iPhone Air 2 could be thinner than the original iPhone Air, according to a new rumor. And it may even slim down to match the iPhone Duo when unfolded.
That means the Air’s already slim 5.6mm body will be down by 0.4mm. What’s more surprising is that the battery could grow instead of shrink.
The iPhone Air 2 could shrink to 5.2mm
The original iPhone Air is designed around thinness and light weight, making it one of the easiest-to-carry iPhones ever. Its 5.6mm-thick body weighs just 165 grams, giving it a noticeably different feel from the thicker, heavier iPhone models.
The new details about the second-generation version come from yeux1122, a Korean blogger who has previously leaked Apple details. The post says the iPhone Air 2 would be around 0.4 mm thinner than the current model. If true, a 0.4mm cut would make it roughly 7% slimmer.
That figure matches the iPhone Duo. Apple’s first foldable measures 5.2mm when unfolded, and it’s the company’s thinnest iPhone ever.
Thinner phone, bigger battery
Making a phone thinner usually means shrinking the battery, but the leak points the other way. The post says iPhone Air 2 battery capacity will actually increase, using the high-density cell found in the Pro models.
A previous leak by Digital Chat Station pointed to a 3,500mAh battery. The original iPhone Air has a 3,149mAh cell, meaning we could see an 11% jump.
Fitting a bigger battery into a slimmer chassis would be a serious engineering problem, but the rumor claims the titanium build is here to stay.
How much to trust the rumor
Treat this one with caution. The entire thing rests on a single blog post, and no one else has backed it up yet.
Apple is expected to announce the iPhone Air 2 in early 2027, a year after the current version. It’ll apparently debut alongside the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.
