OLED iPad mini could get a not-so-mini price hike

OLED iPad mini rumors: Coming soon
OLED iPad mini will cost you a lot of money.

Apple’s upcoming OLED iPad Mini will carry a significantly higher price tag than its existing $599 MSRP. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman believes the company will sell the tablet for as much as $799.

That would make Apple’s smallest iPad more expensive than the M4 iPad Air, which starts at $749.

A mini iPad with a major price hike

Apple currently uses OLED displays on its iPad Pro and iPhone lineup. But reports suggest the company will move all its devices to OLED panels with support for a wider color gamut in the coming years.

The OLED iPad mini is next in line to get the new display technology. The new model will supposedly debut alongside the OLED MacBook Pros later this month.

Besides the newer display technology, the refreshed iPad mini will use Apple’s latest A20 Pro chip, a relocated FaceTime camera and a redesigned speaker system.

Unfortunately, the switch to OLED display will apparently come at a cost. According to Gurman in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, the upcoming OLED iPad mini will start at $799. That’s $200 more than the existing model, which starts at $599.

That’s after Apple bumped its price by $100 in June this year because of the ongoing DRAM and NAND shortage.

The higher price tag will likely deter many buyers interested in an OLED iPad Mini, especially since rumors point to it being a 60Hz panel.

M6 iMac also debuting later this month

While rumors of OLED touchscreen MacBooks and an OLED iPad mini refresh are stealing the spotlight, Apple also appears set to announce an M6 iMac refresh at its rumored October 27 event.

This would be a “chip-and-ship” update, with the iMac retaining the same design and only getting a faster SoC for better performance.
