The wait for Apple’s much-anticipated M5 refresh of the Mac Studio just got longer. The company will reportedly delay the launch of the next big MacBook Pro refresh to 2027 as well.

The ongoing DRAM and NAND flash shortages are to blame for the delay, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Blame the DRAM crisis

Apple unveiled the M5 Pro and M5 Max-powered MacBook Pros in early March 2026. They arrived a few months later than usual, as the company typically unveils new MacBooks towards the end of the year.

Following their launch, reports suggested that Apple was preparing to unveil Mac Studio models powered by the M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. The company has typically refreshed the Mac Studio lineup at WWDC each year.

The discontinuation of the M3 Ultra Mac Studio with 512GB of memory only added fuel to the fire. Long lead times for other configurations, and Apple eventually not accepting orders for them, further intensified the rumors.

However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman now says Apple will delay the launch of the M5 Mac Studio by a few months. “Right now, there’s a belief internally that the new models won’t ship until around October,” he says in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter.

This should not come as a surprise, especially with the entire PC and smartphone industry facing a DRAM and NAND flash crisis. While Apple is in a better position than its competitors, it is not immune to the shortage.

Touchscreen MacBook Pro may be delayed

Unfortunately, Gurman says Apple will also delay the launch of the revamped MacBook Pro with a touchscreen and M6 chip. The company planned to launch it between the end of 2026 and early 2027. However, it now only plans to unveil them in 2027.

This delay is again due to the ongoing DRAM and NAND flash shortages.
