Hey guys, Stephen Cult of Mac here and today I wanted to show you one of the most unusual
0:03
iPhone cases I have ever come across. This is the Radius case by Mod3
0:08
It's currently on Indiegogo with around 17 days left to go, although it's already surpassed
0:13
it's $10,000 goal by 300%. I got my hands on a prototype model though, so I can take a look
0:19
Let's get started. If you're after possibly the ultimate minimalist case or even just don't like having cases
0:27
on your phone but still want to protect it, then the Radius X could be the perfect candidate
0:32
In fact it's less of a case and more of a skeleton or even an updated version of a bumper
0:37
The Radius is made from aircraft aluminium so it's light and slim and the general idea
0:41
is to show off the original design of the iPhone and perhaps even adding to it while
0:45
still offering some protection. As it is aluminium and it covers all four corners, that means there's no real flexibility
0:52
so there is a little bit of installation needed. Luckily you get a screwdriver included along with some spare screws
0:58
Trust me, you will lose some, I managed to lose two just uninstalling the case
1:03
Initially I was worried that the case would scratch up my iPhone X as it is metal on metal
1:07
but thankfully that's all been thought of as there are little covers on the inside to stop the screws from scratching and then there's this kind of tape on the inside to protect
1:14
the corners. Installation is as easy as unscrewing the top two corners, then sliding the case on
1:20
and then screwing them back in. Only thing is, if you're someone who likes to switch out their cases regularly, then
1:25
you'll always need to unscrew it to get it back off and it's a 2-3 minute process
1:28
so it probably isn't for you. Once on though, it has possibly one of the most interesting looks I've ever come across
1:34
It leaves almost the entire iPhone uncovered except for the corners and the cross going
1:38
across the back. The camera hump is also protected with some more aluminium and thankfully it doesn't
1:42
obscure the flash or develop any kind of flashback when taking photos
1:47
In terms of protection, it does a good job covering the corners and also gives the screen
1:50
a bit of protection if you place your phone screen side down. There's a small lip on the corners so the screen is always raised up off the surface
1:58
Now drop protection is somewhere I'm not going to risk my $1000 iPhone but this isn't
2:02
the first Radius case the company has produced and they've posted plenty of drop test videos
2:06
with the previous models and it seems to do the job. Either way, if you're going to use this case I'd still be extra careful
2:12
The sides, tops and bottoms are all still completely exposed. In the hand, the feeling of the Radius takes a little bit of getting used to
2:19
It doesn't feel bad by any means and it does give you a little extra grip but for the way I hold my iPhone which tends to have one of the corners resting on the palm of
2:25
my hand, the little notch where the screw sticks out actually does dig in a little
2:30
The case or exoskeleton or whatever you'd like to call it is available in 3 different
2:34
finishes including the hand polished one I have here along with brushed aluminium and
2:37
gold plating. The 2 aluminium ones will retail for $99 but they're currently discounted to $69 if you
2:44
back them on the Indiegogo campaign whilst the gold plated version will set you back
2:48
a whopping $299 or if you buy early $193. Overall it's a really interesting concept and a case that really stands out in the crowd
2:58
Personally I'm still not sure if I like the look of the case or not. I don't know if it's a case I'd use regularly just because the looks aren't my style
3:04
I'd love to see what you guys think though so let me know what you think of the design in the comments section down below
3:12
Well that's it for this video but if you'd like to find out more information or pre-order
